Why this blog? It’s okay to feel the weight: embrace the pressure and choose to exist.

I Am the back-up Plan

I’ve been fortunate to have extraordinary role models in my life, but none more influential than my father. He came from hardship, yet chose education, service, and integrity—finishing college, becoming an attorney, and earning a seat in Congress during one of Guatemala’s most turbulent periods. He always put people first, even when it cost him everything. He was fighting the good fight which led to him, my mom, my sister, my brother and I to have to escape to the United States in 1986. In just two months, he went from helping lead a nation to washing dishes in a Maryland restaurant. He did it with a smile and shoed proof that dignity has nothing to do with circumstance. Our story isn’t unique among immigrant families, but he was the first to break the cycle. He carried the weight so we wouldn’t have to. So I would never claim the title of trailblazer—he earned it. I’m simply continuing the journey he began.

There is a certain pressure that comes with being the one your family depends on. It’s not spoken out loud, but it’s felt every day—the weight, the urgency, the expectation that you will make it work, that you will push forward, that you will become the one who changes everything.

For a long time, I didn’t know how to describe that feeling.
Now I do:

I am the back-up plan.

Not because I wanted to be.
But because I had to be.

There was no safety net.
No trust fund.
No “if this doesn’t work out, you can always come home.”

What I had was responsibility… and the determination to turn it into opportunity.

The Shift: When Survival Turns Into Legacy

Some people chase success for the lifestyle.
Others chase it for validation.

I chase it for something deeper—to break the cycle of life in this country for my family.

To prove that someone from my family could rewrite the story.
To create a new foundation so the next generation doesn’t have to climb out of the trenches just to get to the starting line.
To show what’s possible when resilience meets strategy.

I don’t have the luxury of giving up.
And honestly, that’s what fuels me.

If We Met In A Year From Now…

What would we be celebrating?
A new mindset? A risk you finally took? The discipline you built? A version of yourself you didn’t think you could grow into?

Now stretch the horizon.

If We Met Five Years From Now…

Would you be living the life you once only planned?
Would fear still guide your decisions—or would you be standing in the confidence of everything you overcame?

These questions aren’t hypothetical.
They’re roadmaps.

What Would You Do if You Were Not Afraid?

This question changed my life.

Fear creates imaginary limits.
Courage creates new realities.

Most people wait for permission to begin.
But time doesn’t wait for anyone, Every morning you wake up, you’re one morning closer to death.
Not in a dark way, but in a grounding, clarifying way.

Time is your most precious currency.
Spend it with intention.

The Five Wealths I’m Learning to Build

As I navigate my journey, I’ve realized wealth is much bigger than money:

These are the pillars I build on, not just for me, but for the ones who come after me.

What Success Really Takes

Success isn’t complicated. It’s nothing fancy, no secret sauce, no guru-level wisdom. Just the basic stuff anyone can do. Common sense, really. But walk into most workplaces today and you’ll see how rare it’s become. The simplest ingredients are always the hardest to find. In my experience, they are:

Ten things that require zero talent, but create 100% of your momentum.

This Is My Humanhood

I am not perfect.
I am not finished.
But I am moving forward, deliberately, intentionally, relentlessly.

This blog is where I document that journey.
The lessons.
The decisions.
The roadmaps.
The roots that ground me.

If you’re reading this, I hope you grow with me.
Because this isn’t just my story, it’s a blueprint for anyone who wants more from their life than survival.

I am the back-up plan.
And this is where I become more.
